So Thursday 1.27.2011 I realized I was having some major internet problems. I went out and filmed an update from the beach BUT couldnt do anything with it due to not being able to upload video. I talked w/ good ol CenturyLink and come Monday afternoon we will have better than new faster internet all hooked up at our apt. Since the internet seems to come and go, I can only post time to time. I wanted to update everyone that I havn’t dropped off the planet and I am still trying to get the latest video up to the net. Thanks for hanging in there!!
No telling the real truth. I ordered a new jump drive to keep with me last week. USPS shows it delivered, except I never got a package.
Mitchell is the postmaster at the Gulf Shores post office. He was super helpful, even though we did not find my package. He printed out a report, called the driver that delivers our route, asked if she remembers it, asked where she put it, etc. Downfall is, she says she left it on our doorstep but I never found anything.
I’ve been working to finish the touches on the Faulkner video and get that delivered. They approved the latest version which ended up being a little over 8 min long. I made the dvd of the video and a mov/mp4 disc to top it off. Got those in the mail with an invoice. Hopefully that draws an end to that project.
The bride and groom loved their picture. I even got a card from them saying what a relief it was to have me at the wedding. That I really kept them relaxed about everything. I thought that was a different take. Typically you hear how much they liked the photographs, but this was the first time I thought about setting the mood for a wedding. A common personality that everyone looks to and enjoys. Which was really funny considering I was pulled aside by the pastor of the church and told this was their ceremony and their day, that it was not my photoshoot. Good times, and what an AMAZING couple they are. I really wish them all the joy and happiness life can bring them!
Fair weather photographer??
I know it would be much more useful if posted in the morning, but its to darn cold first thing in the morning to be out on the beach filming. Plus since I waited till later this afternoon, I had a great opportunity to meet some new people.
Despite the clean up workers and the cold (what us southerners call cold) there were plenty of people out at the beach today. Several people out walking, enjoying the cool air and warm sun, we had a few wind surfers, and even a group of guys playing football. Of course seeing a bunch of barefoot guys in shorts and T-shirts in January caught my attention.
Mike was out flying his Blue Angels kite down at the beach today and had a great story to share of why he’s here. Of course the wind and onboard mic = unusable audio. Fortunate for us though, I grabbed the wireless mic out the truck and his friend Eric filled us in on what’s going on.
Not off to a strong start with this project
First off, it was freezing cold this AM. Literally in the 20*s, and with the wind at the beach… yeah, I slept in. It’s 11am now and I am running out the door. I shot a wedding last weekend and I am delivering the pictures today. Not sure if I’ll get to the update today.
Here are a couple wedding pictures instead
So here is the latest cut of the Faulkner State Community College video. The original idea was to put together a 20min documentary of the building. As time progressed and it started coming together they decided it should be more of an advertisement so the ground breaking stuff all got cut. It became a timing thing, when I could film the PR department had not cleared me to film pickup shots of student, and when they did clear me….. it was finals and the building was pretty much empty lol. None the less, here is a current version of the video.
So here is a new project I’m starting. Posting something everyday to show the conditions at the beach and the temperatures for the day.

Met with a colleague yesterday for lunch. Had a great burger at the North Shore Grill at SanRoc Cay in Orange Beach. Ryan tried out “The Dank”, their famous Big Kahuna burger with chili on it.
We also had a chance to catch up and discuss some upcoming projects we want to work on. I think we hashed out a good start plan which I’ll put into action soon…. hopefully within this next week. I want to see the response to the first simple video’s, and then take it another step expanding on other ideas we had. Something pretty simple but I think people will take to it. A daily weather update. I’ll film down at the beach, show cloud cover, what the surf looks like, what the sands look like, and have on screen info for the forecast and temps.
This is not my video. I found it on youtube but its absolutely brilliant. They pulled a matrix. Not to mention the Wonder Years feel at the beginning.
Post every day. I need to learn to post something. Anything…. Every day. I have spent the past few weeks editing, going through all my files renaming them to a different format. A consolidated format.
Date of photo from metadata_SpecificFileName_4 digit number
This is a format that I found works amazing. I actually took the idea from Chase Jarvis.
I’ve also moved my work flow to Apple Aperture vs Adobe Lightroom.
Ok, I hope to post more soon on whats been going on, what I’ve been doing, and more importantly to start posting photographs and videos.
